It's horribly sappy, and I swear I'm not becoming a new person or anything, but today I realized that I really, really like my family. Immediate are good. Extended, fantastic. That probably also applies to LOTR, I don't really know.

Got to see Dorien and Thalia, Aunt Penny, Uncle Terry, Thalia's new husband Drew. They have this less-than-a-year-old baby, Lucas, chubby cheeks and rosy smile. I just wanted to pinch his cheeks, he was so ridiculously adorable. I wonder if this is what it's like to be a woman.

Later, brother's godparents christmas party. Two conversations which, in my mind, some up Uncle Terry, the man who once told me that when I spill something, just tell people I peed myself and nobody will believe it. Lie so they'll believe the truth.

Conversation 1: I'd just gotten there from eating a thanksgiving-sized dinner at Uncle Nick's. Contentedly, I munched on a carrot stick.

"You just eat dinner?"
"Yup," I replied, "I thought I was too full to eat anymore, but after a month of top ramen and Carl's Jr., I have to try."
"You know what the key is, stay away from meat..."
"Actually, I was thinking about going on the Atkins diet, just eating meat all the time..."
"You know what's going to put a damper on the Atkins diet? Mad cow disease."

Where the hell did THAT come from? Sooo random. But he laughed. Later on, as we were saying goodbye, he came up and shook my hand, put his hand on my shoulder. "You're turning out wonderful," he smiled. Then he turned serious for a moment. "You know what the key is..." He leaned over and conspiratorially whispered in my ear, grasping my hand the whole time.

"Don't lose your sense of humor."

I grinned at him, and told him with all the casual emphasis I could muster, the absolute truth. It's what's gotten me this far.
