I tried to update the other day, but the overloaded servers of our benevelant sponser wouldn't let me, so I gave up and stuck it on livejournal. Nothing of particular import, it's just a sort of moment I had yesterday, mere hours before my upgrade told me to look for moments of synchronicity in my life.
When you step out of the CS computer lab over at GS228, known to geeks all over campus as that 4 letter word starting with H... (Hell or Home, take your pick), around the middle of the day, there's this little staircaise right outside and too the left, that leads down to a large square of pavement and a little door back into the building. When the wind hits the walls of this depressed little corner, the leaves on the ground in front of the door are always roused up, spinning around in a fantastic, miniature tornado. Bashing against the walls, yearning to break free.
So yesterday, having left the tecca for some fresh air, caffeine, a smoke, and a small taste of freedom, I picked one of the leaves up and put it on the ground outside the alleyway, above the staircase. Confused, it sat there until another gust of wind slammed it into the wall, and it fell down to rejoin it's brethren in the depressed alleyway, swirling up in another tornado, spinning around in search for freedom.
What the hell, I wondered, was it fighting so hard for, if it was just going to drop back in, first chance it got?
Then I laughed, because the dried up, crusty brown leaf had made a hypocrite out of me. Flicking my cigarette against the wall, I ambled back into the computer lab, where I stayed and frowned and coded and wished for freedom, the next 4 hours of my life.
